And the winner is . . . . ?

It's been forever since I've blogged . . . doubt I can remember everything the kids have read the last six weeks, but I'll do my best!

The winner for the best series, can't keep our noses out of a book, even read on a Friday night and all day Saturday is . . . . The Spiderwick Chronicles by Tony Diterlizzi and Holly Black. M and S read all 5 books in 3 or 4 days time. They also really enjoyed Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You, also by Mr. Diterlizzi.

Besides more Bill Peet books, M also read Little House by Boston Bay and Island of the Blue Dolphins at school. M is currently reading the first Harry Potter book. S is reading the 3rd Lemony Snickett book along with many Bill Peet books. They have both enjoyed Rude Giants and You Read to Me, I'll Read to You: Very Short Fairy Tales to Read Together. I'm currently reading Misty of Chincoteague aloud to them.

Since R and I have read too many books to remember the last six weeks, the ones we've enjoyed this last week have been Max Cleans Up, Mrs. Brown Went to Town, and Alphabugs.

I'm currently reading Before You Know Kindness by Chris Bohjalian.

Within a week?

Yes, I have officially blogged twice in a weeks time . . . you probably wouldn't want to hear from me any more than that! :)

R and I have read more great books again. Favorites include: Wild About Books (M & S really liked this one also), Bunny My Honey, Toes Have Wiggles & Kids Have Giggles, and The Sleepy Book.

M finished The First Four Years, and is now reading The Field Guide (the first book in the Spiderwick Chronicles series) on her own. S finished Farmer Boy Days. Both M & S read Huge Harold (we're big fans of Bill Peet books).

Until next time . . . :)

Too old for Baby Storytime?

Baby Storytime at the library started up again today for R and I. I know she's three and should probably go to the Preschool Storytime now, but we're not ready to give up the songs, nursery rhymes, playtime, etc . . .

R and I have read a few good books lately . . . It Looked LIke Spilt MIlk, How Many Kisses Goodnight, Cat Goes Fiddle-I-Fee, and Mommies Say Shhh!.

M finished The Fifth-Grade Celebrity last week, and is now halfway through The First Four Years(sort of reading them backward :) ). S started Farmer Boy Days ( a condensed Little House book) and is liking it so far.

We're still reading from The Family Under the Bridge and The Spiderwick Chronicles . . . should finish up both of them this week. We also read My Librarian is a Camel . . . really interesting.

I finished Peace Like a River . . . will probably use it for my book club choice. I need to hurry and get started on Little Men for book club next week.

New Year's Resolution?

Maybe my New Year's Resolution should be to blog more often! :) Since I couldn't possibly remember everything we've read the past month, I'll just try to hit the highlights!

M read Little House on Rocky Ridge and really enjoyed it! S read a Time Warp Trio and a Hank the Cowdog book . . . he enjoyed both! R and I have read a lot of picture books this past month, but I can't think of any that really stand out.

I read aloud The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Silver Packages, Peter Claus and the Naughty List, SantaKid, The Christmas Candle, and the Christmas Day chapter from Farmer Boy.

I'll probably start reading aloud next week The Family Under the Bridge. Mallory and I will also be reading the first book in the Spiderwick Chronicles series for the Mother/Daughter Book Club we attend.

We're almost finished with our Ancient Egypt studies. We still have a National Geographic to review on King Tut, watch Mysteries of Egypt, and read The Egyptian Cinderella just for fun. We really enjoyed the Reading Rainbow "Mummies Made in Egypt" video.

I finally finished Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire . . . my favorite Harry Potter so far. I have started Peace Like a River and also have Memoirs of a Geisha to look forward to.

I also want to recommend the movies March of the Penguins, Zathura (the book also), Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Short entry . . .

I've read some really cute books to R this past week . . . just wanted to make sure I got them recorded. The first (and her favorite) is Boo Hoo Boo-Boo by M. Singer. The others are Grandma Rabbitty's Visit, Merry Christmas Big Hungry Bear, Little Miss Spider: A Christmas Wish and Fire Truck.

M finished Ella Enchanted and is now reading Ida B. on her own. Her class read Molly's Pilgrim at school and she's been busy making clothespin pilgrims ever since. She want's to try out a Nancy Drew book next . . . I can hardly wait! :)

S finished the last Captain Underpants book . . . not sure what he will pick up next.

Until next time . . .

Bill Peet anyone?

M has a list of Bill Peet's books on the fridge . . . she's trying to read all of them. As a family we've read Capyboppy and The Whingdingdilly. M has so far read Encore for Eleanor, Fly Homer Fly, Jethro and Joel Were a Troll, Pamela Camel, and The Wump World. M is close to finishing Ella Enchanted . . . by the far the longest book she's ever read. Instead of Measle and Wrathmonk, S and I read Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator together. It will never be in the same leage as the first book, but I have the admit the Wonka-Vite chapter is pretty hilarious!

For R we've read Benny Bakes a Cake by Eve Rice, Where is Christmas, Jesse Bear, and Sleepy Bears by Mem Fox . . . all really good!

I'm reading aloud The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe right now. I also have some Thanksgiving themed picture books to read aloud. Oh, also going to read Zathura since we're seeing the movie this Saturday!

I just started Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire . . . I ALWAYS have to read the book before the movie . . .

Fall Favorites . . .

M asks me occasionly if I'm blogging the books she's reading . . . hopefully I'm keeping up. We finished Ida B. last week . . . great book! S really liked it too. M has been reading a few books by Gail Carson Levine . . . For Biddle's Sake, The Fairy's Return, and Cinderellis and the Glass Hill. She'll probably want to read Princess Sonora and the Long Sleep and Ella Enchanted next. She also read Fourth-Grade Celebrity by P. Giff (We have not been disappointed in books by her). S has only one more Captain Underpants book to read, then he's read them all. He and I will read Measle and the Wrathmonk next along with finishing up Stink: The Incredible Shrinking Kid by M. Mcdonald for the parent/son book club at the library. (M. Mcdonald's Judy Moody books are also great!)

For Ancient Egypt studies, my kids really enjoyed The 5,000 Year Old Puzzle. We still need to read Ms. Frizzle's Adventures in Ancient Egypt, You Wouldn't Want to Be a Pyramid Builder, and Mummies Made in Egypt.

R's current favorites are Belly Button Book, Whose Socks are Those?, and My First Songs.

I finished The King of Torts . . . really good! I'm still plugging away at 1776. My next book club books is Obsessive Genius: The Inner World of Marie Curie.
